Hearoes for Hearing is the University of Florida’s National Student Speech-Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) philanthropy. This is our organization’s charity that directly benefits cochlear implant patients at the UF Health Speech and Hearing Center. This year Hearoes will be expanding our fundraising efforts by planning new events such as our first Benefit concert, Hearing Awareness Week, and an Ice cream social. We hope you will join us and will bring along your friends to learn more about our cause!

According to the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, approximately 28 million Americans have a hearing impairment. The purpose of Hearoes for Hearing is to raise money to help purchase new test materials and therapy materials in the speech department for habilitation and rehabilitation, audiological tests, and provide loaner equipment for both the children and adult patients. Additionally, we strive to spread awareness about hearing loss throughout the Gainesville community.

In 2017, we raised over $9,000 and had over 250 participants at our annual 5k. In 2018, we raised $16,982 and had 316 participants at our 5k! Thanks to the incredible, dedicated participants, Hearoes for Hearing continues to grow every year! This year our goal is to create diverse events and prepare for our 5k in Spring 2020.  We hope you decide to join our cause in supporting the local hearing loss community.

This year Hearoes has:

1) Volunteered at Hearing Screenings in Alachua County Public Schools and Charter Schools. We volunteered at 10 public schools in September, and will be volunteering at 7 charter schools in October. We have contributed 60 volunteers for approximately 240 hours.

2) Hosted our very first Benefit Concert on September 30th! Which hosted over 150 people at the High Dive and raised $2,041.05 for the UF Health Cochlear Implant Clinic. We are working hard to ensure next year we can put on the 5K!
